Wenger irate with critics, threatens media walk-out

first_imgLONDON (AP):Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger dismissed continued criticism of his team selection as “very, very, very, very boring” and threatened to walk out of a news conference yesterday when questioned about Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.Arsenal lost 3-2 to Olympiakos on Tuesday when stand-in goalkeeper David Ospina dropped a corner over the line and the defence then conceded a third goal immediately after the hosts equalised.Wenger yesterday launched an impassioned defence of both his team and decision to select Ospina ahead of Petr Cech as he faced questions ahead of tomorrow’s Barclays Premier match against Manchester United.”You come to the game, you judge the game, and you assess if I am right or wrong. I never critiqued that. I accept your judgment of how the team played and your assessment, but I don’t have to give you all the information I have to make my decisions,” Wenger said. “I make the decision that is right on the day, and I am accountable for the results of my team and the way we play football. … If you have watched the game and you come down to the conclusion that we lost the game because of Ospina, I question your knowledge of football.”When pressed to respond to Mourinho’s comment that there was only one Premier League manager not under pressure, Wenger curtly replied: “Look! Stop that story or we stop the press conference.”As he marked 19 years as manager, the 64-year-old Wenger hit back at the sweeping criticism, having not won the Premier League since 2004. The team is three points behind leaders United after seven games.”I think you lack a bit of creativity in the press at the moment, that you follow a bandwagon that is very, very, very, very boring. I don’t go along with that,” Wenger said. “If you have any interesting questions for Sunday’s game, I can answer, but apart from that, let’s not come back always to the same story.”Wenger was frustrated at what he sees as a lack of proper match analysis by the media.”One pundit says something on television and all behind that they repeat exactly the same thing. It is quite boring because nobody came out with numbers of this game where the game was won and lost,” Wenger said. “It is quite depressing to read that and to hear that – to all come just to the same conclusion and not to have watched well what has gone on on the pitch.”In injury news, centre back Laurent Koscielny is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks with a hamstring problem picked up against Olympiakos. Midfielders Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini remain out.last_img read more

Archaic Humans Are One With Us

first_imgAccording to the biological species concept, two varieties of anything are considered one species if they can interbreed and produce fertile offspring.  Applied to humans, new evidence suggests that Neanderthals and the recently-discovered Denisovans (12/29/2010) were members of the human species.    According to New Scientist, “On the western fringes of Siberia, the Stone Age Denisova cave has surrendered precious treasure: a toe bone that could shed light on early humans’ promiscuous relations with their hominin cousins.”  Since one can only be promiscuous within the same species, this puts enormous pressure on evolutionary timelines that assume the Denisovans split from the Neanderthals 300,000 years ago. New Scientist said the toe bone found in the Siberian cave of Denisova, announced by Svante Paabo (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany), looks like something between that of a Neanderthal and a modern human.  Reporter Colin Barras speculated that Paabo’s team has DNA evidence that will be announced in a forthcoming publication suggesting the toe came from a Neanderthal-Denisovan hybrid.  “If so,” Barras concluded, “there may be a case for reclassifying all three as members of the same species.” In Nature News, Ewen Callaway reported more about ancient DNA from archaic humans.  Callaway tantalized, “scientists are racing to apply the work to answer questions about human evolution and history that would have been unfathomable just a few years ago.”  Recent work has shown that living non-African people share 4% of their genes with Neanderthals, clearly indicating inter-species breeding.  Yet the ancestry of Neanderthals and modern humans were thought to be separated by 200,000 years of evolution.  In addition, “The denizens of Denisova also bred with contemporary humans” whose DNA can be traced to modern Melanesians, “thousands of miles away from Denisova, suggesting that the Denisovans had once lived across Asia.”  Given the propensity of modern humans for travel and technology, it seems a stretch that these members of a common species could have remained separated for tens of thousands of years. David Reich (Harvard Medical School) cautioned that the poor quality of the Neanderthal and Denisovan genomes risks misinterpretation, but John Hawks (University of Wisconsin-Madison), noting that the genomes are publicly available, said, “There’s nothing stopping high-school students from doing this” (mining the genomes for clues).  Like Barras at New Scientist, Callaway expects fundamental discoveries to come from the DNA evidence, now that “ancient human genomics is moving at breakneck speed.” The flame is out under the Darwin balloon, so it’s only the evolutionists’ hot air that is slowing its descent; otherwise it would move at breakneck speed and break the necks of Darwin mystics.  Who can believe them anymore?  These are the so-called experts who told us for over a century that Neanderthals were missing links.  Can you really accept their reckless dates of hundreds of thousands of years?  If these “archaic humans” were the same species as us, who can believe the evolutionary myth that they just sat around in caves for many times the recorded history of civilization?  You know that these true humans would have traveled the world, built cities and maybe have even conquered space in a fraction of that time.  There’s a universe of possibilities inside those human skulls (see Medical Xpress).  Moreover, they were probably stronger and genetically more fit than today’s obese couch potatoes (06/21/2011). Don’t wait for the Darwin balloon to crash.  It won’t be a pretty sight, anyway.  Since the genomes are publicly available, there is an open invitation to find clues that fit the creation timeline.  Home schoolers and independent researchers have all the right in the world to research the data and come up with new out-of-the-box hypotheses, as long as their reasoning is sound and consistent with the evidence.  Go for it.  Let’s put the Darwinist losers (06/28/2011) out of our misery.(Visited 30 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Storyboarding Your Film: Tips for Your Next Project

December 12, 2019

first_imgStoryboarding is a great way to pre-visualize your film before you begin shooting. We share tips and point you toward tutorials that will help navigate this aspect of the pre-visualization process.Sometime back we gave you 10 Tips for Creating Storyboards, those tips came from illustrator Ben Caldwell and Dreamworks. Today we’re going to give you a few additional tips with the hope of allowing you to take your storyboards to the next level.Just like with any film you want to start with the script. From the script you can gain a sense of how to best approach the visuals for the film. From this point it would be a good idea to begin creating a shotlist. The ShotlistA shotlist does exactly what it says it does. It runs down a full list of every shot to be filmed in your project. It is a great way to checklist and organize your shots so you reduce the need for reshoots. Also, a shotlist can help bridge the gap between certain sequences. It does this by not requiring a storyboard for every shot of the film and allows for some fluidity. Lesson Bucket has a great page devoted to shotlists with a video tutorial video from the article author Brett Lamb. Film Sourcing has all the documentation you need including a shot list. While generating your shotlist be sure to label and single out key shots and sequences. These specific shots and sequences are usually the artistic foundation of your film.Key Shots and SequencesUsing the shotlist identify your key shots and sequences, this is where your attention for storyboarding needs to be focused. By identifying these you can focus your attention on how you will compose these specific scenes. For example, I directed a short film which had a quick turn around time of 3 weeks. Instead of storyboarding the entire film, my writer and I focused on key specific scenes that would be the most important to the story. I then crafted 4 specific storyboards which we used along with our shotlist.Storyboards from the short film “The Tent” courtesy of Johnathan Paul.If you’re just dead set against drawing storyboards stop here and check out Storyboard That. While I would encourage you to draw your own storyboards this website is a good resource for those that don’t have the time or artistic skills to draw. You Don’t Have to Be a ProfessionalThis can’t be stressed enough: by no means do you need to be a professional artist to create storyboards. Stick figures work just fine. Many filmmakers from varying drawing skill levels have produced great storyboards that work perfectly for gaining an understanding of a shot or scene. Some directors end up collaborating with either an individual artist or a team of artists to develop the storyboards for their project. Then there are other directors like Ridley Scott who come from an art background who storyboard their own films.Storyboard Art from “Alien” by director Ridley Scott.Don’t feel you can draw at all? Well, here is a video to boost your storyboard confidence. Then there is also the Robert Rodriguez way for storyboarding…by using video.Still want to collaborate with another artist? Check out Jorgen’s List. It’s a great resource for finding available storyboard artists. At present there are around 50 artists listed.Know the LingoWhenever you put your storyboards together, even if you are using video storyboards, you need to know the basic lingo of framing for filmmaking. Being able to talk about or add this lingo to your drawn storyboards is important and can help to make things easier on everyone, especially your Director of Photography and Camera Operator. To help you with this the IAFT or International Academy of Film and Television has a great video that takes you through the shot terminology you’ll need to know when crafting your storyboards. We hope these tips are helpful. We hope they aid you the next time you begin putting together storyboards for your next project. Have any additional questions or other tips to add?
