first_imgThe largest associations in the Croatian tourism sector – the Croatian Hotel Employers’ Association and the Croatian Camping Association, together with leading tourism companies operating in Croatia, have founded a new umbrella tourism association called the Croatian Tourism Association (HUT).HUT will deal with strategic issues of the most important Croatian industry, which accounts for 18 percent of GDP and more than 10 percent of employment in Croatia. Tomislav Popović, President of the Management Board of Maistra, was elected President of HUT. “The new umbrella association of the tourism sector is open to unite all interested hotel and tourism companies and professional associations in the hospitality and tourism industry. We want to unite our performance in order to ensure the further development of Croatian tourism in the direction of increasing quality, raising competitiveness, further increasing employment and the overall positive contribution to the Croatian economy. We want to be a partner of institutions in creating regulations and creating an environment that will enable further development of the tourism sector and all industries related to tourism. “, said Tomislav Popovic. After the Founding Assembly, HUT initiated the process of official registration of the Association, after which a Board of Directors will be convened to appoint a director in charge of the operational management of the Association. The founders of HUT generate about 70 percent of the total revenue in the sector, and in accordance with the Statute of the association is open to new members for the purpose of cooperation and active creation of the business future of the tourism sector. It is not yet known who joined the new Association, except Maista, UPUHH and KUH, but unofficially Valamar Riviera, Plava laguna, Bluesun, Falkensteiner, Turisthotel and others are mentioned, while the former Minister of Tourism should be the director of the Association. , Veljko Ostojic. The HUT Board will be held soon when more information will be officially known. In any case, an interesting reshuffle of forces that had to take place, given that various associations in tourism have made little or no positive progress to date.last_img read more

first_img2 Senegal Algeria Thursday, January 19 1FT 0 The Carthage Eagles also won the only previous clash between the northern neighbours in South Africa four years ago thanks to a late Youssef Msakni goal..Msakni was involved in the opening goal in Franceville with his cross deflected into the net by Algerian captain Aissa Mandi.Algeria also contributed to the second Tunisian goal as Wahbi Khazri was fouled in the box after intercepting a weak Faouzi Ghoulam back-header and Naim Sliti converted the penalty.Substitute Sofiane Hanni scored a stoppage-time consolation goal.“It was a very important match,” said Sliti. “We knew that after the game against Senegal we were very frustrated. We had chances to win.“We made amends and showed the true face of Tunisian football. Many say that we play the most beautiful football and today we were rewarded.”Belgium-born Algeria coach Georges Leekens said: “We started very well, but we know that in a match of this level we cannot give away gifts.“If we make them two presents in the second half, we cannot win.“The way we conceded the second goal when we were hit on the counter attack, we cannot have imagined that before the game.” Share on: WhatsApp 2FT Ghana7:00 PM Egypt10:00 PM Tunisia scored twice in the second half before conceding a stoppage-time goal to confirm their Cup of Nations dominance over Algeria. Zimbabwe Ivory Coast7:00 PM Tunisia Morocco10:00 PM Friday, January 20 DR Congo Togo Franceville, Gabon | AFP | Senegal put a string of disastrous Africa Cup of Nations campaigns behind them Thursday by beating Zimbabwe 2-0 and becoming the first qualifiers for the 2017 quarter-finals.The Group B match was all but over as a contest after only 13 minutes in Gabonese city Franceville after Liverpool star Sadio Mane and Henri Saivet scored.Since finishing fourth in 2006, the Senegalese have suffered a horror run in the premier African football competition, failing to get past the group stage three times and not even qualifying twice. Now they are guaranteed to top Group B — whatever the result of their final fixture against battling Algeria next Monday.“The goal today was to qualify and we have done that,” said Senegal coach and 2002 World Cup star Aliou Cisse.“Even when we played badly in the first match (against Tunisia), we won. Today we played well and won and we have qualified.“It’s been 10 years since we last made the quarter-finals. Now we have done it and I congratulate the players.“I am very proud of the guys. Now we have to continue like this.”Tunisia recovered impressively from a first-match beating by Senegal to defeat Algeria 2-1 and become favourites to finish runners-up and also secure a last-eight place.A draw with Zimbabwe in Libreville, in a fixture scheduled to start at the same time as Senegal against Algeria, will clinch second spot.Algeria, considered likelier quarter-finalists than Tunisia before the biennial competition kicked off last Saturday, are in serious trouble.Only if they beat Senegal and Zimbabwe beat Tunisia might the Desert Foxes squeeze through on goal difference, goals scored or the drawing of lots.Senegal wasted two chances to score before Mane tapped in a Keita Balde cross on nine minutes after Saivet carved open the Zimbabwe defence with a superb pass.Saivet doubled the lead four minutes later by curling a free-kick over the defensive wall and past goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva.A rout seemed on the cards as Senegal played keep-ball at times, as if in a training session, while increasingly frustrated Zimbabweans chased shadows. The sole southern Africa representatives in Gabon did have a half-chance before half-time, but star attacker Khama Billiat shot weakly at Abdoulaye Diallo.Senegal continue to stamp their authority on the match in the second half and Mane was foiled twice in quick succession by Mkuruva and Czech Republic-based defender Costa Nhamoinesu. National council of sports needs UGX 196Bn annually – Dr. Ogwel

first_imgMuhangi says that NCS needs to finance associations based on performance and is concerned that there is heavy investment in football and yet it is mainly boxing and athletics that have won medals in the last 50 years.Muhangi also argues that NCS should allocate the funds, little as they may be appropriately. However, Muhangi is optimistic that the upcoming meeting between NCS and the presidents of all the 48 associations will yield results on equitable funding. The meeting is slated for May 28th.Meanwhile, the Vice President (finance) of the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA), Robert Musisi says that much as government gave the federation shillings 1.6 billion in 2017/ 2018 and shillings one billion in 2018/2019, it is still inadequate. He says that between April to June 2019, the federation needs shillings 800 million but it has been allocated shillings 250 million. Some of FUBA’s  activities between April and June this year include Africa Beach Games in Cape Verde and also the All Africa Games.Meanwhile, the National Director for Special Olympics in Uganda, Genevieve Bamwidhukire is grateful to NCS for funding some of its activities and yet it is not recognized by the NCS Act. Bamwidhukire says that Council has gone out of its way to ensure that inclusive sports gains traction in the country by not only funding Paralympics Federation for the persons with physical disabilities but also persons with intellectual disability who participate in the special Olympics. For instance, Bamwidhukire says that in March,  NCS provided close to shillings 190 million out of a total of shillings 345 million for 2019 World Games that took place in Abu Dhabi.Dr. Ogwel says that when government releases shillings 197 billion in 2019/2020, all the associations will get adequate and equitable funding. However, if the government provides at least shillings 65 billion, then each association can get shillings 500 million a year. For now, the Parliamentary committee on education has recommended that National Council is allocated shillings 26 billion so that FUFA’s allocation does not suppress the budget allocations for the other 47 associations in 2019/2020.NCS was created in 1964 as the governing body to among others develop, promote and control sports activities in Uganda.*****URNShare on: WhatsApp FILE PHOTO: Cranes National Football teamKampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The National Council of Sports (NCS) needs an annual budget of shillings 196 billion to fund all the 48 associations effectively and run its own activities in 2019/2020 financial year.Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel,  the NCS Acting General Secretary says that the ideal annual budget of the Council was approved in September 2017 in a document titled, “Ministry of Education and Sports Sector Strategic Plan 2017/2018-2019/2020”.According to the plan, the government was expected to allocate shillings 187.8 billion in 2018/2019 and shillings 197 billion in 2019/2020.However, the Council was allocated shillings 17.4 billion in 2018/2018 and is expected to get the same amount in the 2019/2020 proposed national budget.Ogwel says that government funding is therefore not even half of what was approved in the strategic plan. He however commends the government for increasing council’s budget from shillings 300 million in 2000 to shillings 3 billion in 2013 and to shillings 4.4 billion in 2015.Due to limited funding, the Council mainly finances national teams that qualify for international competitions and therefore has inadequate funds for development projects such as investing in sports academies and construction of at least one sports facility in a region. He says that out of the shillings 17.4 billion to the Council, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has been allocated shillings 10 billion annually. In the FUFA budget for 2018/2019, shillings 3.8 billion has been earmarked to finance the  Uganda Cranes participation in the Africa  Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals slated for late June to Mid-July. Ogwel argues that shillings 3.8 billion (approximately US $ 1 million Dollars) is inadequate compared to host Egypt that has invested about US $ 10 million Dollars in its national team for the competition.Other activities in the FUFA budget include paying the National head coach US $20,000 Dollars (approximately shillings 75 million) monthly, the national assistant coaches, and also about 50 national players who receive shillings one million monthly.Dr. Ogwel however says that FUFA’s shilling 10 billion will create inequality among the associations because budgets for the Council and the other 47 associations must be covered within the remaining shillings 7.4 billion.  Ogwel says that the Council spends shillings 2.7 billion shillings annually and allocates the remaining shillings 4.7 billion for associations based on national interest. Therefore, some of the associations receive billions while some receive shillings 10 million a year from government. For instance, the Council allocates shillings 3.7 billion annually to mainly Athletics (shillings 1.5 billion), Boxing Federation of Uganda (shillings 500 million), University Sports Associations (shillings 500 million) and shillings 150 million to the Paralympic Committee. Netball and Basketball federations receive shillings 1 billion annually. He said some of the activities Council will finance in 2019/2020 include the 2019 Africa Games, Netball World Cup, qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and also championships for specific associations.Dr.  Ogwel is now urging executive committees of associations to mobilise resources from other sources other than depending on government.Ogwel’s acknowledgement of the funding inequality comes after some of the sports associations objected to the shilling 10 billion allocation to FUFA.  The President of  Uganda Boxing Federation, Moses Muhangi  was among the leaders who criticized the move.last_img read more

Lewis Stakes, went five furlongs in 59.60 for trainer Simon Callaghan, who is contemplating either the Sunland Derby on March 22 or the Santa Anita Derby on April 4 for the son of Line of David owned by Arnold Zetcher.“I’m really happy,” Callaghan said. “He galloped out in 1:12 and he looked really fluid. So far, so good.”Under Martin Garcia, Eclipse Award winner as outstanding male 2-year-old of 2014 American Pharoah worked seven furlongs in a bullet 1:23.80 for his 3-year-old debut in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park on March 14. It was the fastest of seven drills at the distance, the average time of which was 1:26.85.“He’s doing good,” Bob Baffert said. “I was happy with it.”Another Baffert trainee, San Vicente winner Lord Nelson, worked six furlongs for the San Felipe in 1:13, in company with Chasintheaces, who was clocked in 1:12.80. Bolo, also under consideration for the San Felipe, worked six furlongs for Carla Gaines in 1:13.80.Pain and Misery, yet another ticketed for the San Felipe, worked five furlongs in 1:00.40 for Richard Mandella under Flavien Prat, who rides in the San Felipe.Mandella also sent two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder five furlongs in 1:00.20 as she gets closer to her 5-year-old debut. “She’s coming along well,” Mandella said.Big Macher, who has been invited to Dubai for the $2 million Golden Shaheen on March 28, worked five furlongs for Richard Baltas in 1:00.20.At Los Alamitos, Horse of the Year California Chrome worked five furlongs in a minute flat, according to track clockers, while trainer Art Sherman caught the son of Lucky Pulpit in 59.60 with a six-furlong gallop out time of 1:13.60. Exercise rider Anna Wells was aboard.“Really nice,” is how Sherman described the move. “It was just what I wanted. He’ll have two more works here before leaving for Dubai on March 17.”How busy were Santa Anita clockers Friday morning?Put it this way: “Even if the track’s open tomorrow,” said private clocker Gary Young, “I don’t think there are any horses left to work.” Mike Smith7315151121%$1,349,491 ‘CONQUEST’ IN STEP FOR GRADE II SAN CARLOS STAKESConquest Two Step had been a candidate for the $2 million Golden Shaheen in Dubai on March 28, until trainer Mark Casse called an audible and decided to remain stateside.Next up for the Florida-bred son of Two Step Salsa is next Saturday’s Grade II, $250,000 San Carlos Stakes for older horses at seven furlongs.“I like how his numbers keep improving,” said Randi Melton, assistant to Casse for the past five years, referring to Conquest Two Step’s Beyer increases from 81 to 98 to 105 in his last three races, including a 1 ¼-length win in the Grade II Palos Verdes Stakes on Jan. 31.“Just weigh the options,” Melton said. “If the horse goes to Dubai and everything goes absolutely perfect, we lose two to three months, realistically, with everything going right.“He’s doing fantastic here, he loves it here, so we’ll keep him home.” MIKE LUZZI 2015 GEORGE WOOLF WINNERMike Luzzi, America’s Eclipse Award-winning apprentice jockey in 1989, has been named winner of the 2015 Santa Anita George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award by a nationwide vote of his peers.A 45-year-old native of Wilmington, Delaware, Luzzi has stood the test of time and has enjoyed a highly successful career riding primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region, Maryland and New York. It is expected that Luzzi will travel west to Santa Anita to accept the award in March or April.Sidelined due to a broken leg and a fractured pelvis sustained in a paddock accident at Aqueduct on Nov. 2, Luzzi outpolled four other finalists: James Graham, Leslie Mawing, Corey Nakatani and the recently retired Rosie Napravnik.Presented annually by Santa Anita since 1950, the Woolf Award is one of the most highly coveted honors in all of racing as it recognizes those riders whose careers and personal character earn esteem for both the individual and the sport of Thoroughbred racing.Born Oct. 27, 1969, Luzzi was raised in part by his grandfather, legendary trainer Virgil “Buddy” Raines, who also trained one of Luzzi’s biggest early stakes winners–Timely Warning, with whom Luzzi won the 1991 Maryland Million Classic at Pimlico and the Grade I Brooklyn Handicap at Belmont Park. Luzzi was also the winner of New York’s prestigious Mike Venezia Memorial Jockey Award in 2001.With 26,540 career mounts, Luzzi has won 3,420 races. His mounts have generated purse earnings of $108,218,039.Luzzi and his wife Tania reside in Floral Park, New York, and have a daughter, Larue, 14, and a son, Lane, 16, who is preparing to become a jockey. The Woolf Award was created to honor and memorialize legendary jockey George “The Iceman” Woolf, who was regarded as one of the greatest big-money riders of his time.  Woolf died following a spill, which has often been attributed to the effects of diabetes, on Santa Anita’s Club House turn Jan. 3, 1946. The Woolf trophy is a replica of the full-size statue of the late jockey which adorns Santa Anita’s Paddock Gardens area. The inaugural Woolf Award winner, which was determined by a vote of the Racing Press, was Gordon Glisson. Last year’s Woolf Award was won by Corey Lanerie.FINISH LINES: Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red, scheduled to run in the Santa Anita Derby on April 4, is now due to return to Keith Desormeaux on March 7 rather than March 1 after undergoing swimming rehab for an abscessed foot. “That gives us time for three works before the Derby,” the trainer said . . . Services will be private for former top jockey Jerry Lambert who died Monday at the age of 74. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Lambert’s name to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund . . . Assistant starter Huey Barnes reports that Eugene “Snake” McDaniel, the groom for 1971 Horse of the Year Ack Ack and a former employee of Charlie Whittingham and Ben Cecil, was scheduled to head home today from Country Villa Rehab in Arcadia where he underwent amputation of his right leg due to a blood clot. “He used to rub Ack Ack,” Cecil said, “and he kind of retired 10 years ago, but he didn’t stay retired for very long and came back and helped out around the barn. I went to see him a couple of times and he was in good spirits, but it’s going to take a bit of adjusting.” . . .Due to expected inclement weather Saturday, the Seabiscuit Movie Night in the Paddock following tomorrow’s races has been cancelled . . . There were 403 winning Late Pick 5 tickets sold Sunday, worth $979.50 each . . . Charlie Stutts took a philosophical approach to running 6-year-old gelding Crimson Giant, winner of only a maiden race from 66 starts, in the $1 million Santa Anita Handicap next Saturday: “If he gets beat,” the trainer said, “10 minutes later they’ll forget all about him. This camera was the darling of NAB 2012.So, will they show a higher resolution for the Cinema Camera, a firmware update or other new goodies? Digital Bolex – No Booth InfoWill this camera compete with the BMCC for users looking to upgrade from a DSLR that want to shoot in CinemaDNG?The camera made an appearance at this year’s SXSW festival.  I’m assuming we will see a working camera and their set of lenses at NAB. This is an exciting time for the video production and post production markets. Cheaper technology and a shake up in the leading apps of the past, has really opened up the market for innovation and development.  I’m excited to see what new products come to market at NAB – and how they might effect our industry in the coming years. What are you most excited to see at NAB 2013?Share your thoughts in the comments below! Panasonic – Booth: C3607Panasonic currently offers the popular AG-HPX250 camcorder (under $5000, 10-bit, 4:2:2, AVC-Intra 100 recording).Panasonic showed a 4K Prosumer Prototype at CES.
