Jesus Brace Sends City Top

first_imgGabriel Jesus said his mother’s arrival in England has improved his confidence as he ended his Premier League goal drought to help Manchester City return to the top of the table.Jesus had not scored a league goal since August – a run of 11 games and 487 minutes – but netted twice before Raheem Sterling added City’s third. The Brazil forward, who signed for City in 2017 and extended his contract until 2023 earlier this season, has recently been joined in Manchester by his mother. “My confidence is back because my family is here with me,” said the 21-year-old. “They help me a lot. It is easy for me because they are everything. I need my family in this moment.”City manager Pep Guardiola said: “He settled so well from the beginning – but it is much better his family is here and strikers need to score goals. He scored two nice goals that will be important for him.”City will stay top for at least another day, with Liverpool needing to beat Manchester United at Anfield today to reclaim their place at the summit. This victory, City’s 10th in a row at home in the league, was rarely in serious doubt once Jesus had fired his side ahead on a bitterly cold day at Etihad Stadium.Yerry Mina’s misplaced pass allowed Ilkay Gundogan to find Leroy Sane in space, and he sent Jesus galloping into the area to score with a fine low finish. Jesus only had to wait another 28 minutes for his second of the game. When it arrived just after half-time, Sane was the provider again – with Jesus meeting his precise cross to plant an unstoppable header past Toffees keeper Jordan Pickford.City looked in complete control but Everton gave themselves hope just after the hour when Dominic Calvert Lewin met Lucas Digne’s cross to reduce the deficit. The visitors were only briefly back in it, however, with substitute Sterling – a week after suffering alleged racial abuse during City’s defeat at Chelsea – heading in Fernandinho’s cross four minutes later with his first touch. It was enough to ensure City, whose loss at Stamford Bridge last weekend was their first in the league this season, are back in a familiar position at the top.Kevin de Bruyne, back from a knee injury that has kept him out of action since 1 November, also came off the bench before the end to give the home fans further reason to cheer.Share this:FacebookRedditTwitterPrintPinterestEmailWhatsAppSkypeLinkedInTumblrPocketTelegram Gabriel Jesuslast_img read more

India treating next two matches vs Australia as knockouts, says Bhuvneshwar Kumar

November 16, 2019

first_imgIndia lost the first match of the three-ODI series by 34 runs to hand Australia a 1-0 lead in the series.Chasing a modest total of 289, India fell short of the mark as they could only manage to reach 254 for 9 with Rohit Sharma scoring 133 off 129 balls while MS Dhoni managed a fifty while the rest of the batsmen failed to get going.Virat Kohli got out for 3 while Shikhar Dhawan managed a golden duck. Ambati Rayudu also couldn’t open his account while Dinesh Karthik made just 12 runs.”It was one of those matches where the top order didn’t click,” paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar told reporters in Adelaide on Monday.”It can happen with you when you play so much cricket.”So it was just one of those things … it’s very rare for us.””We have been in this situation before,” he said.”We know it won’t be impossible to win the series but it won’t be easy for us as we are playing away from home.”We are preparing in a manner where we have to win our next two matches so it’s a kind of knockout for us, we can’t afford to lose this match.”Meanwhile, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s inability to set the pace during middle overs will remain a major cause of concern when India face Australia in the next ODI.Hardik Pandya’s sudden suspension on disciplinary grounds has badly affected the balance of the batting order, which was apparent during team’s 34-run defeat in the opening match despite vice-captain Rohit Sharma’s 22nd hundred in 50-over format.advertisementDhoni’s 51 off 96 balls and failing to rotate the strike has brought to focus the rejigging that skipper Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri will have to fret upon. With Dhoni being slotted at No 5 even though vice-captain Rohit wants the veteran to bat a notch higher but cues from India’s training session made it clear that the team is unlikely to tinker with the batting order.India’s batting order did come under the spotlight at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The top three (Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli) have enjoyed a fairly consistent run since 2016.Also Read | India vs Australia: Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni hit the nets as India prepare for Adelaide ODIAlso Read | How Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul got into trouble for Koffee with Karan: A timelineAlso Read | My heart started beating faster after India call-up: Shubman Gilllast_img read more

Ombudsman federal tax relief program needs funding to improve response time

October 13, 2019

first_imgOTTAWA – The federal government’s Taxpayers’ Ombudsman says the Canada Revenue Agency needs more permanent base funding for a program that provides financial relief to taxpayers who fall behind on payments because of a disaster or hardship. The ombudsman says in a report that it’s partially satisfied with the CRA’s efforts to set a standard for processing relief requests within 180 days, at least 85 per cent of the time, effective April 1, 2017.But it says the CRA’s regional processing times should be more consistent and there needs to be more accuracy in communicating the times to the taxpayers making the requests. The ombudsman says the CRA has implemented or accepted two recommendations, which deal with how taxpayers are notified about the estimated time required to process their request. It also says the CRA has accepted in principle that it should identify the reasons for fluctuations in the number of requests received for tax relief following a flood, fire or other unusual hardship situation. But the ombudsman says its fourth recommendation — for “sufficient permanent funding” to allow for adequate planning and consistency — is still under review as the CRA determines its resource requirements.last_img read more
