first_img22 January 2014The Soweto Canoe and Recreation Club (Scarc) is aiming to make waves at this year’s Dusi Canoe Marathon, with a club record 20 members taking part in the event, including former podium finisher Loveday Zondi. With canoeing increasing in popularity among black South Africans, Scarc club captain and coach Nkosi Mzolo is optimistic about the club’s prospects at the 2014 edition of the three-day epic, which starts at Camps Drift in Pietermaritzburg on 13 February.‘We are proud’“It is really great that we will be sending 20 paddlers to the Dusi this year,”Mzolo said in a statement on Monday. “In the past it has been quite difficult getting paddlers qualified and race-ready for such a big event, but this year we are proud to have so many paddlers taking part in the race.“This year a lot of the team have really been training hard and qualifying for the Dusi has been the main goal,” he added.Mzolo singled out three of the Scarc paddlers that he is hoping will do well after solid performances at the recent Drak Challenge, which also served as the South African K1 River Championships, in Underberg.‘Looking forward to the Dusi’“The Drak Challenge was good for us,” he said. “We had 17 paddlers in the race and all of them managed to finish, which was great. I know that it is very different to Dusi, but I am still happy with how they did and am looking forward to Dusi after some good results.“Siseko [Ntondini] had a really good Drak Challenge, where he ended up in ninth place overall and second place in the under-23 category. He is going to be paddling Dusi with Piers Cruickshanks this year, which will be really good for him and there is so much that he is going to learn from Piers,” Mzolo added. He also named the experienced Loveday Zondi and rising start Thando Ngamlana as a crew to watch out for. Ngamlana finished in a respectable 43rd overall and 16th in the under-23 category at the Drak Challenge, finishing ahead of his more fancied partner Zondi.‘This combination excites me’“This combination is the one that excites me the most because these two are strong paddlers and we are really hoping that they can push for a top 10 at the Dusi this year,” Mzolo said.Zondi, a veteran of 10 Dusis and the first ever black paddler to finish on the podium at the Dusi, understands the pressures of being a role model to the young, aspiring paddlers at Scarc, and said he has been impressed by the improvements that have been made at the club.‘I enjoy the role’“It’s not easy having a lot of youngsters looking up to you, but I enjoy the role that I play at the club,” Zondi said. “It’s always good seeing these youngsters asking questions because a lot of them see the Dusi as just another race but it is a lot more than that!”Zondi said he gains a lot of satisfaction from seeing paddlers like Ntondini and Ngamlana coming through the ranks and making an impact nationally, which serves as motivation for him and the other members at Scarc.‘I want to give them my knowledge’“Sitting down and talking to the guys is something that I enjoy because I want to give them my knowledge,” he explained. “I want them to take in the information about training and preparation for big races like the Dusi.“We stay together at our clubhouse and it is great seeing some of the guys want to do well and take their training seriously because it means that we are doing something right.“Seeing the guys come through to the senior ranks is great, and now the guys I have seen from the beginning are competing against me!”Dusi goalZondi and Ngamlana have set themselves of a top 10 finish in the Dusi, which far more than any other canoe marathon places a heavy premium on portaging.“Thando is a really strong runner, probably one of the strongest at the club, and he has improved his paddling a lot, so we are really hoping that if it all goes well we could end in the top 10,” Zondi said.SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

Tsnomore Long Silky to Grey Straight Ombre Synthetic Wig – Very happy with this product

first_imgIs that the entrance centre parting will make it glimpse really much like a wig i have to use a hair band. Truly beautiful sensation wig, my challenge with it, is that the front centre parting tends to make it glimpse incredibly a great deal like a wig i have to use a hair band to hide the front.Like it appears to be genuinely good feels great not heavy xx.Really wonderful for the price would definitely advocate shades a small. Incredibly nice for the selling price would surely advocate shades a minor but for the selling price i would not complain and the element in could be much better but then again for the selling price its good ??????.Over all very synthetic, not the same length but good for pictures or cosplay.Great quality for the priceWas great. It could be a little thicker so you Hair colour and feel is lovely. The parting is Great for short term useVery happy with this product Seems to be seriously great on, but the parting is really white and plastic looking. I experienced to produce a facet parting and comb the hair around to the side. It seemed fabulous for a although. Of class it didn’t last as well long- synthetic, and top quality is just ok. But for a a person-off event or a night out, a great wig.Parting @ leading a bit wrong seeking.I really like this wig, the only factor is the white patch rite on the leading at the front,, would make it ovs it can be a wig, aside from dat it is lovely also sent following working day.Great wig, thick, lots, very good high-quality hair, combs very well with out knotting, comfortable to don, all the things is fantastic .But only factor it hasn’t got are maintain in clips so it stays on your cap.Attractive wig, had lots of compliments on it and people imagined it was my authentic hair.Love it arrived when mentioned terrific good quality and colour match best.Hair colour and feel is beautiful. Hair colour and sense is wonderful. The parting is white plastic and bery bulking in which the plastic has been folded which is this sort of a shame as it could be attractive.Tsnomore long silky black to qingdao. Funky hair adore it and really like carrying, great value for income.Good wig for the rate, individuals even asked me when did i dye my hair, lol. The wig is so awesome and comfortable and long, which i really like :d downfall?. The parting is white, just use concealer/foundation to match it to your skin tone, other than that it can be so good, i get hundreds of compliments :d.Okay, but the scalp component seems to be definitely phony, can only truly wear this with a hat.In excess of all pretty synthetic, not the same length but good for photos or cosplay. . This isn’t horrible excellent but it is not a little something you could have on every day and get absent with it. I have not attempted to curl this but i wouldn’t dare. It is 100% synthetic and i am quite absolutely sure this will burn off. It’s not as long as the photo shows either, i’ve connected a photograph to demonstrate the genuine length. The picture can make it look a lot more luscious than it is on the other hand, about all if you just want to use this for pics or cosplay then it truly is excellent. It has no clips to hold it in area even though the double sided tape may well keep it in spot for cosplay. The good news is i in no way prepared to dress in it out of the household any way.The greatest wig i go ugh so significantly. I genuinely enjoy this wig , the ideal wig i acquired so considerably.Very good things as pictured wonderful come to feel organic color. Good stuffas picturedgreat sense all-natural color. It truly is a minor shorter than the image but other than that a good high-quality wig.Long, tender,a little bit much too shiny on top and slighty too thin. But i afenit operate an it appears pretty superior. Excellent decision for cosplaysband partys. It could be a minimal thicker so you. It could be a tiny thicker so you can design it far more and was a minimal difficult to get on, but apart from that it’s well worth the revenue. It could be a little bit extra thicker and that the parting was not so faux hunting, but it is worth the funds.Like this does not seem bogus and had masses of compliments will purchase once more.last_img read more

first_imgBefore the Delhi University admissions begin, the Delhi High Court has exempted 4 Colleges from reserving 27 per cent seats for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) candidates for the 2014 – 2015 academic year due to their status as minority colleges.Justice Manmohan passed the order while hearing a plea filed by Mata Sundari College seeking exemption from the OBC quota as it was minority-run institution reported IANS.The order will benefit four DU colleges run by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), constituted under the Delhi Sikh Gurdwaras Act. Apart from Mata Sundari College, these are Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, Guru Gobind Singh College, and Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College — all declared minority institutes.    Passing the order, the court also said that these colleges shall provide reservation in admission for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes as per the Delhi University’s norms, but they will not be obliged to give reservation to OBCs for this academic session .Mata Sundari College, during the hearing, contended that the reservation policy was not applicable to these institutions in view of a Supreme Court verdict on OBC reservations. The apex court had held that minority educational institutions (MEI), whether they were aided by the government or unaided, were exempted from reserving seats for OBCs, the college added. However, DU maintained that reservation rule of DU for OBC should be followed by these colleges also.last_img read more

Commentary Say what Coach Fickell needs to mind his mouth

September 28, 2019

We’re all aware of Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee’s propensity for regrettable one-liner remarks, but first-year OSU head football coach Luke Fickell unleashed a howler of his own during a Tuesday press conference. “We hope we get better,” Fickell said during his first visit with the media since the Buckeyes’ 24-6 loss at Miami. Is that so, coach? You “hope” your team gets better? President Gee couldn’t have said it better himself. Fickell’s remark strikes me as troubling because any coach on any football team, especially a first-year coach attempting to uphold 122 years of Buckeyes football tradition, needs to be proactive in improving their team, not hoping. What the Buckeyes need right now is a clear plan and discernible end in mind, especially with regard to the team’s dilemma at the quarterback position. Fickell said that while the media may tend to focus on quarterback play, he focuses on every facet of his team. “It’s focused on the quarterbacks, but we’ve got to do a better job all-in-all,” he said. “Whether it’s offensively or defensively… we’ve got to find a way to get our best 11 on the field.” Whew. That’s more like it from the Buckeyes’ head coach. He’s talking about improving the team and finding the pieces to the puzzle that will help the team succeed. But wait! Fickell produced another gaff as his press conference ended while explaining why he didn’t use a timeout during a fourth-quarter Miami drive that lasted 8:48 and bled the game clock down to less than one minute. “It ultimately didn’t end up hurting us,” Fickell said. What do you mean it didn’t hurt the team, coach? You didn’t utilize your timeouts, a valuable tool at your disposal, which, aside from stopping the clock earlier in Miami’s drive, could have served the Buckeyes in several ways. At the very least, you could have given your defense a breather since that particular Hurricanes’ drive lasted for the better part of ten minutes. Only a select group of people gets to see the team at every practice and team function, so I, along with all of Buckeye Nation, must give Fickell the benefit of the doubt when it comes to helping the Buckeyes improve. Fickell needs to do a little better than hoping his team will improve, as well as kidding himself that his team wouldn’t have benefitted from the use of a timeout at some point in the fourth quarter against Miami. With that attitude, Fickell could be hoping for a new job at another program in the near future. read more

Ohio State mens lacrosse looking to simplify things against Marquette

OSU won, 11-7.Credit: Ryan Robey / For The LanternThe Ohio State men’s lacrosse team (0-2) is looking to turn things around.Following back-to-back overtime losses to start the season, the team is set to return to Columbus Saturday to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles.Coming away from Jacksonville, Fla., after falling to Massachusetts, 12-11, in overtime as part of the Moe’s Southwest Grill Classic, OSU coach Nick Myers said there is no time to hit the reset button.“Two tough losses, no doubt,” Myers said. “Coming up short is tough, but we are really just focused on the next task at hand which is Marquette on Saturday.”Marquette (1-1), which is in its second year as a Division I program, is coming off arguably its biggest win to date after knocking off Hofstra, 11-9, on the road in Hempstead, N.Y.OSU senior defenseman Joe Meurer said the Buckeyes have to focus on improving their communication in order to limit Marquette’s chances this weekend.“Obviously giving up 12 goals (in the loss to UMass) is not a staple of our defense, so we need to improve there,” Meurer said. “It’s just continuing to develop a chemistry on the defensive end and knowing when to slide.”One area that has been a concern early in the season for OSU — which also fell to Johns Hopkins, 10-9, Feb. 9 in triple overtime — has been its special teams, as they are 0-9 with the man-up advantage through two games. The early season struggles come after scoring 46 percent of the time in the same situation last season, good for fourth in the nation.“We have to simplify things,” Myers said. “We have gotten a number of different looks from different teams … it’s just settling into some basic different sets that we have, identifying areas that we think we can capitalize off of, and having an answer when we see different looks.”Another aspect that should be key for the Buckeyes throughout the rest of the season is evening up their faceoff percentage.Losing one of the best faceoff players in the country last season in Trey Wilkes (13th in the country at 58 percent), OSU has struggled to find a permanent replacement, going 13-51 against Johns Hopkins and UMass.“We are 25 percent at the X right now which isn’t stellar at all,” senior defenseman Dominic Imbordino said. “We definitely want to get that number up and get our offense the ball more, but right now we are trying to find an identity there and I think it’s going to turn around soon.”This is slated to be the second all-time meeting between the Buckeyes and the Golden Eagles as they met last year in Marquette’s first ever game as a Division I school, with OSU walking away with the 18-8 victory.Game time for the Buckeyes and the Golden Eagles is set for Saturday at noon at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. read more
