Supplied by Channel 7.Once the jewel in the crown of the Gold Coast’s tallest building in the 1970s, host Jamie Durie described the penthouse as “rundown, dated and anything but joyful”.Records show the penthouse at 125/114 The Esplanade is owned by eccentric New Zealand multi-millionaire Manfred Bennett, who paid $1.8 million for it in January 2010. Surfers Paradise provides a stunning backdrop in the new season of House Rules. The Gold Coast penthouse given a Miami Beach makeover in the new season of Channel 7’s House Rules has been described as “tacky” and “sickly” in a scathing review by judges.Eight teams from around Australia were tasked with renovating rooms inside the beachfront penthouse on the 32nd floor of the iconic Focus Apartments in Surfers Paradise. Byron Bay beach house fetches big price The minimalist kitchen failed to embrace the Miami luxe theme. Photo Channel 7.But there wasn’t enough going on in the minimalist kitchen designed by Brisbane couple Tamara and Rhys whose pool lounge took the Miami Beach vibe too far.“It was such an injection of colour that it kind of came off as tacky rather than luxurious,” Ms Clarke said.More from news02:37International architect Desmond Brooks selling luxury beach villa8 hours ago02:37Gold Coast property: Sovereign Islands mega mansion hits market with $16m price tag1 day ago MORE NEWS: What the eviction moratorium means for you Contestants walk the plank off Focus in I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Picture Glenn Hampson. It’s not the first time the Focus tower has played host to a reality TV show. The 97 metre building has featured in I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! with contestants challenged to walk a plank off the high rise. The dining room got the judges’ tick of approval. Photo Channel 7.The only team to mostly get it right was Perth parents Tanya and Dave who raised the standard with a confident and considered design in the dining and shower rooms.“It oozes opulence, sophistication and elegance,” Ms Clarke said, awarding a score of 9/10.“You really got the secret of Miami decorating which is yes, play around with the gelato colours, but underscore it with black and white,” said Mr Llewelyn-Bowen. Not even a retractable TV could save this living space. The entry way created by married Melbourne cheerleaders Susan and Anthony was described as “scrambled” and “Wiggle-tastic” while their bar was dubbed “bold but sickly”.“You know when you were a teenager and you used to take the entire contents of your parents’ drinks cabinet and mix it together as a glamorous cocktail? And you know how you’d feel quite sick afterwards? That’s how I’m feeling now,” said Mr Llewelyn-Bowen.The ensuite renovated by Sydney mates George and Laith was applauded by the judges as “big, bold and beautiful”, with bonus marks for the beach-facing toilet affording a “poo with a view”. Focus Apartments was once the tallest tower on the Gold Coast.Teams had just seven days to restore the shabby pad to its former glory by embracing a Miami luxe vibe with “sexy curves” and an impressive gelato colour palette. But the challenge proved too great for many of the teams who wore the wrath of judges including British self-styled home consultant Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, interior designer Kyly Clarke and builder Saul Myers. Tasmanian twins Kimmy and Rhi were also accused of ignoring the House Rules in the lounge space which was otherwise worthy of any European glossy magazine. “But it doesn’t have that sense of upbeat, sexy, luxe Miami that we’re looking for,” said Mr Llewelyn-Bowen complained. But it was all a bit much for the House Rules judges.NSW mother and son Lenore and Bradley made House Rules history by taking on the first indoor swimming pool, but took the Miami theme too far.“There’s an explosion of pattern in here,” Mr Llewellyn-Bowen said. “It’s almost as if you wanted to get as much stuff as possible in here to distract us, basically ending up with a lot going on.” The pool area was a visual feast of pattern and colour.last_img read more

first_imgProgressive farmers’ group PAMANGGASdenounced the arrest as part of a government crackdown on activists. Alliza hadserved as treasurer of the group. Therebels did not harm the nine police officers but handcuffed them. They alsoused the police station’s patrol car to flee. Police sources claimed Alliza was a “politicalorganizing leader” and “leader of the intelligence team” of the Baloy Platoon under the CentralFront Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines – NPA operating in central Panay. Maasin is some 25 kilometers fromIloilo City. The rebels were long gone when troops from the RegionalPublic Safety Battalion (RPSB) of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) reachedthe police station. The former barangay captain was beinglinked, too, to the New People’s Army (NPA) incursion of the Maasin policestation in June 2017. The search warrant for his house was issued by JudgeGemalyn Faunillo Tarol of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 31. Police sources said he was also one ofthe John Does charged over the rebels’ raid of the Maasin police station. For PAMANGGAS, however, Alliza’s arrest was“part of the political crackdown” being waged by the Duterte government againstcritics and progressive organizations with the aim of silencing them. Alliza faces a charge for violation ofthe Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. ILOILO City – Operatives of the IloiloPolice Provincial Office (IPPO) raided the house of a former barangay captainof Bolo, Maasin, Iloilo yesterday at 8:50 a.m. They recovered a grenade, a gunholster and a pair of handcuffs. “We are intensifying our campaignagainst loose firearms and explosives,” said Vilela. On June 18, 2018, a Sunday, between 40to 50 NPA rebels stormed the police station of Maasin around 10:30a.m. and disarmed nine police officers.center_img BY RUBY P. SILUBRICO and GLENDA TAYONA A book on the Philippine Revolutionwas also recovered, according to Police Colonel Roland Vilela, IPPO director. Charges of direct assault on personsof authority, disturbance of public order, robbery and tumult were filedagainst the rebels before the provincial prosecutor’s office./PN Witnessessaid the rebels fled toward the town of Alimodian. Cris Chavez, secretary general ofPAMANGGAS, said the grenade supposedly found in Alliza’s house was “plantedevidence.” Before leaving the police station, therebels distributed statements to residents explaining the raid. Herman Alliza was arrested. He,however, denied owning the grenade. The daring, broad daylight incursionwas swift. Within 15 minutes the rebels shanghaied eight M16 rifles, four Glock .9mmpistols, five handheld radios and their base, two laptops, P29,000 cash, andjewelry. Alliza had served, too, as environment officerof the municipal government of Maasin, he added, and former co-workers couldvouch for his integrity.last_img read more
